Frequently Asked Questions
When you arrive, you and your esthetician will fill out a consultation form together. Most facials consist of a double cleanse with steam, exfoliation, extractions with a skin analysis, facial and upper body massage, facial mask, and products customized to your specific skin type and concerns. Depending on the facial and your skin history, the facial performed will vary. Different facial “add-ons” can be added to your treatment for a additional fee to add extra benefits to your treatment. All facials are uniquely customized to target your specific skin care needs. Please see the Service Menu for more information on the specific facials offered and add on treatments. After your treatments our esthetician will customize a skin regimen for your skin to take home and support your results long term.
-Skip any strong exfoliation the week before your appointment. You should even avoid gentle exfoliation for a few days before, since exfoliation is one of the key steps in a professional facial.
-Do not tan/burn before your appointment (or ever!) Your esthetician will have to perform a gentle facial to help with any sun damage instead of one that can really target any deeper concerns you have with your skin.
-If you can remember bring in a list of products you're using currently so your esthetician is aware of what you are using on your skin. In addition make sure to bring a list of your medications, medical conditions and past skin conditions, and any resurfacing treatments so your esthetician can choose products that won’t interact.
-Be prepared to discuss your top skin concerns and your goals for your skin. Our esthetician will help you with specific treatments, but they will also help transform your skincare routine to best tackle your goals. Estheticians are licensed experts in skin and skin care – they should be your go-to resource for information!
-Lastly, prepare to RELAX and enjoy your facial!
-Be Gentle: It is important to stick to gentle cleansers and products after a facial. Since exfoliation is deeper during a facial treatment it is important to NOT use harsh skincare products after a facial treatment.
-Hydrate: When it comes to your skin, hydration helps your skin cells function effectively; it helps you flush out toxins and leaves you with glowing skin.
-Moisturize- You should use a gentle moisturizer to replenish and lock in that moisture after a facial.
-Protect: While we strongly recommend protecting your skin from UV rays every day (yes, even in winter!), this is especially true after a facial. Your freshly exfoliated skin is particularly susceptible to sun damage post-treatment and its vulnerable surface can easily burn.
-Follow Esthetician's Advice: A professional home care routine is essential for boosting the life of your facial. Use the facial as your chance to take your skin to the next level, not simply bring it back to baseline. Work with your esthetician to develop a skin care routine that is customized for your specific skin type, concerns, and skin care goals. Following their expert advice can do wonders for maintaining your skin’s health between appointments.
-Book your next appointment: Professional treatments provide the extra care and expertise needed to enhance your everyday routine. Together, at-home and in-spa treatments set your skin up for optimal health and vitality.
-Picking: Every time you squeeze or touch a blemish, you run the risk of spreading bacteria and scarring your complexion. Further picking and prodding will only do damage; your best course of action is to leave them be and book a follow-up appointment with your esthetician for further extractions.
-Makeup: it’s best to stay away from your makeup (at least for 24 hours). If you absolutely must need to wear makeup for an important event, make sure to clean your brushes or applicators first.
-Harsh/Aggressive skincare products: Products with AHA’s, BHA’s, benzoyl peroxide, Vit A or retinols, Vit C, hydroquinone, scrubs, prescribed retinols like tretinoin, and cleansing brushes, should be avoided for a few days or possibly up to a week after a facial to prevent irritation or sensitizing of the skin.
-The Gym: After a facial, it may be best to skip the workout for the day as sweat and other pollutants can cause irritation in the skin. If clients are adamant about working out, we suggest they make sure to make their trip to the gym before their appointment.
-The Sun: Freshly exfoliated skin is decidedly more vulnerable to harmful UV rays. So, after-facial care requires a conscious effort on your part to stay out of the sun. That’s not to say that you should avoid going outdoors altogether, but extended periods of time in direct sunlight is not the best.
-Steam room/steaming hot shower: Your skin has already been exposed to plenty of steam during your facial and adding on could lead to irritation.
Once a month facials are recommended to help aid in the cell turn over process which happens approximately every 30 days. As we age, this cell turn over process slows down, contributing to dull sallow looking skin, fine lines, wrinkles, blackheads, congestion, and coarsely textured skin. Monthly facials assist your body in doing more efficiently what it is”supposed” to do on its own.
